SAN DIEGO – A pair of teenage boys allegedly crashed a stolen BMW into a parked car in Nestor Sunday then set it on fire at a nearby middle
school, but were later taken to juvenile hall, a police officer said.

arrestThe boys, 16 and 17, were allegedly driving recklessly about 3:35 a.m.  and crashed the BMW into the parked vehicle near Mar Vista Middle School, leaving the car’s bumper and license plate behind, San Diego police Officer Dan Lasher said.

The car was reported stolen earlier Sunday, Lasher said.

Witnesses spotted the boys as they torched the car at the school’s Thermal Avenue campus, Lasher said.

The teens ran off, but were caught a short distance away, Lasher said.

Lasher said they were identified by a witness, confessed and were taken to juvenile hall.

The Metro Arson Strike team was investigating, Lasher said.
