Bundles of marijuana found on boat

SAN DIEGO – One person was taken into custody late Tuesday afternoon after a boat loaded with marijuana was found floating in the ocean near Sunset Cliffs.

sunset cliffs drug boatThe vessel was spotted off the coast near Point Loma Nazarene University about 3:30 p.m., according to San Diego police and the U.S. Border Patrol.

Lifeguards brought the small boat to shore, and federal personnel seized it along with several bundles of cannabis.

By early evening, a suspected trafficker believed to have been involved in the failed smuggling attempt was in custody, USBP Agent Jerry Conlin said. It was not immediately clear if the detainee had been aboard the vessel, the spokesman said.
