SAN DIEGO – A few weeks ago, sports fans didn’t know about Florida Gulf Coast. Now that their basketball team defeated San Diego State University Sunday evening, they were the most talked about team at this year’s NCAA tournament.
The No. 15 seeded Eagles had a dunk fest over the No. 7 Aztecs, winning the game 81-71 in an upset during the second round of the tournament.
FGCU (26-10) held San Diego State (23-11) without a field goal for over seven minutes as it pulled away, creating a national profile along with it.
Jamal Franklin had 20 points and 11 rebounds.
FGCU first shocked the sports world after beating second seeded Georgetown in the first round on Friday night.
