Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk-HSAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard airlifted a 71-year-old woman from a cruise ship to San Diego Friday for medical treatment.

The woman was aboard the cruise ship Zaandam on a trip from Hawaii to Ensenada, Mexico, when she experienced a serious medical emergency, according to the Coast Guard. The ship’s crew contacted the Coast Guard, which launched a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and a flight surgeon at 5 a.m. to meet the ship about 200 miles off the coast.

The helicopter crew hoisted the woman up to the helicopter and arrived with her back in San Diego at about 9:15 a.m.

The woman was transported to a local hospital. Her condition was not known.
