The crash happened about 9 p.m. Sunday on eastbound state Route 52 west of Mast Boulevard and east of Santo Road. A Ford sedan was driving the wrong way on the freeway when he collided with the minivan, according to the California Highway Patrol. The man was killed in the crash, and the family of four was trapped inside the minivan.
“A 40-year-old female suffered major injuries. There’s a 17-year-old female that suffered moderate injuries, and two uninjured children — a boy and a girl — that did not appear to be injured at the scene,” a CHP officer said.
The mother and her teenage daughter are expected to fully recover from their injuries, officials said.
It was not immediately known if the wrong-way driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
