ENCINITAS, Calif. – Two sheriff’s deputies were wounded in a shooting Wednesday in Encinitas, where the gunman was believed to be holed up in a house.

encinitas swatShots were fired in the 700 block of Del Rio Ave, near Leucadia Boulevard, shortly after 3:30 p.m. as deputies searched for an auto theft suspect, according to the sheriff’s department.

Members of the sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail were summoned to the area and had the place surrounded late this afternoon.

About 1 p.m., deputies were sent to the area on a report of a stolen vehicle, but could not find the suspect immediately. When deputies returned to the 700 block of Del Rio, they were fired on, sheriff’s officials said.

Has anybody noticed since our economy is getting some much better according to the politicians and now we have more layoffs and people running out of unemployment benefits, gas and food prices rising, we seem to have more shootings and robberies? Could it be the politicans are lying through their teeth and the economy is actually getting worse?

    • mke1965

right because it's their responsibility to teach morale behavior to people.

forget about people being responsible for themselves and their own actions…why that would make them accountable.

Amy, Did you read my comment earlier? They deleted it. What is this? No First Amendment allowed here on Fox5News? OMG! No wonder why they have only one comment so far. No one wants to read articles from a news organization who chooses to only allow it's own views to be posted. Surprised even yours made it through! Wow!

      • Zak

Your comment made me want to hit my face against the wall. You obviously have your "First Amendment"… but it is Fox's website, they own it. That means that they are able to take down posts that they find irrelevant, aggressive, offensive, etc. To break it down for you it is like having a naked, drunk man dancing outside your restaurant, you won't want it because it scares away business, right? Also, there is a time and place for everything, this article is about a very serious event happening in a relatively peaceful area. It you want to talk politics and throw more trashy words about our President (on deft ears I might add), then find people who care, like your high-ended, doom-speak, conservative friends. Moral of the story, if you are so concerned about your freedoms, then get off the internet because I feel you won't be satisfied here.

they are but he already left in 2008… we are still trying to pick up the pieces from the abortion he botched on this country

      • GGC

You are either ignorant or brain washed. The current administration has exacerbated the country's financial position way beyond where it was in 2008. There is no picking up of pieces, the president and his executive orders are dismantling us completely.

And just for the record, I will bet money the gun used by the perp was not legally registered, but this incident will fuel the politicians wanting to disarm law abiding citizens.

blaming other's instead of taking responsibility is what this poster is doing and why criminals do the things they do.

so basically the original poster is more responsible for the criminals than anyone else.

And to give them an out by blaming it on other forces…. please

    • johngaltunited

Paige, I sure am! He is the ultimate enemy from within. One evil dude. You just need to quit drinking the kool-aid if you don't see that.

    Mark W,

You're week and wont fulfill related to moving to Canada. But if you do, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

This thread is ashamed of your face.

  • Kate

Bunch of weirdos commenting on this post. Why does everyone IMMEDIATELY blame the president for anything that happens in our country? Even when it has NOTHING at all to do with Washington, D.C.? Isn't this about S.W.A.T. surrounding a house of a criminal?

    • mke1965

this is obviously retaliation for obama golfing with tiger woods.

I am just waiting for them to blame the meteroite on obama

    • johngaltunited

It's because there were guns involved and our second ammendment is being attacked at the moment. Perhaps you have not been watching the news? The 2nd amendnment was only behind the first because us Americans feel it is pretty important to be able to defend ourselves. Yet, we have a Police of Chief in San Diego who would like to see us without guns. And that is the same desire of our POS Prez. That's why.

I don't know what President Obama has to do with today's shooting. What was left out of the report is that Del Rio Avenue is in the epicenter of a neighborhood long known as Tortilla Flats. A gang infested hub since at least the early 70's, Tortilla Flats has connections to all the LA Gangs, straight to the top. Don't believe me, go walk theough it some afternnon. The shooter was undoubtedly a Mexican Cholo gangster. Personally, I'm glad he and his gun are the streets!

    • Del Riego

John, you are so wrong about Del Rio Avenue being still a gang area. we live in that neighborhood and overall it is very safe now. We have no idea of who the shooter is at this time. You need to keep your racist comments to your self ! Get a life.

    • guest

obviously you havent walked neighborhood lately, very few mexican live here!! LA gangs??? soooo wrong! i have lived on Del Rio for 40 years, and i know the family. Mexican cholo gangster is so far fom the truth

      • Chingaria

Tortilla Flats 'was' in that area, however it is suffering from White Blight now, because it's becoming high priced coastal property. When rich people thought coastal property was for the poor during the 70's, Tortilla Flats, when rich people want coastal property….Trust Fund baby town.

The news casters keep asking about who he his….7/39 have neighbor on say he was 27 y/o heroin addict who lives at home with his mom. He had prior run in with police several years ago– public record. Please research n quit asking

    • Linda

his spelling may not be great, but it does not make his statements untrue. Amy, John, I am in complete agreement.

  • PersonWithABrain

I love that idiots are blaming the President for a shooting. The guy that wants to limit gun sales. Only clicked through from a link, I guess the rumors are true – Fox News fans are dumb.

    • Guest

And you are an imbecile and an obvious lib.
However I will say it is not the president's fault and it is not the gun's fault. It is another deranged individual with issues…this time drug issues so it appears.
You just cannot explain nor understand insane actions of these people. I do appreciate it when they kill themselves and spare us trial and wasted money incarcerating these people.

  • Shawn

He's 22. Yes he is a heroin addict fell out of touch with him in high school when he started doing drugs. He is not a " Mexican cholo"

  • ShellRocketScientist

He was a 22 year old kid who had gone to La Costa Canyon with MY kids. Parents, Teachers, Leaders, Law Enforcement and PASTORS need to wake up and start giving these kids HOPE so they quit turning to drugs- Drugs make people do stupid, harmful things- to others AND themselves!
Ironic how our society won't tolerate Biblical Principles- God repeated EIGHT TIMES*: "LOVE your NEIGHBOR as YOURSELF" Jesus said it SUMS Up the ENTIRE LAW. It's NATURAL to love ourselves- WHAT has happened to a society where kids are killing themselves at a progressive rate? This has NOTHING to do with the President- We're a society who won't tolerate TRUTH which SAVES us… and we're reaping the consequences. Time to get back to Biblical Principles before we completely destroy ourselves. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that this ain't working!
    * Matthew 19:19, 22:39, Mark 12:31, Luke 10:27, Romans 13:9, Galatians 5:14, James 2:8, AND ALSO in the Old Testament: Leviticus 19:18.
