ocean knollENCINITAS, Calif. — An investigation was under way Monday into the fourth burglary of an Encinitas-area elementary school in two weeks.

Deputies responded to a burglary alarm at Ocean Knoll Elementary School at 910 Melba Road around 11:50 p.m. Sunday, according to San Diego County sheriff’s Sgt. Roberto Lopez.

Once there, deputies found a classroom window was broken and a storage cabinet inside the classroom had been opened, the sergeant said in a statement.

Investigators suspect thieves were looking to steal iPads, but no items of value were kept in the cabinet at the time of the burglary, Lopez said.

Late last Friday night, a similar burglary occurred at Skyline Elementary School. Authorities said the thieves in Friday’s burglary got away with two dozen laptop computers.

In the early morning hours of Dec. 30 and Dec. 31, two dozen iPads were stolen from Cardiff Elementary and Ada Harris Elementary schools.
