CARDIFF-BY-THE-SEA, Calif. – A dozen iPad tablets were taken from Cardiff Elementary School by a pair of burglars Sunday morning, deputies said.

Encinitas deputies responded to Cardiff Elementary School around 3 a.m. Sunday after a burglar alarm went off, said San Diego Sheriff’s Sgt. Joe Passalacqua.

While searching the premises with police dogs, the deputies discovered the school’s perimeter fence “had been compromised” and that two classrooms had broken windows, said Passalacqua.

“The suspects entered one of the classrooms, broke off the lock on a storage cabinet, and stole a dozen iPad tablets,” according to Passalacqua.

The total loss was estimated at $6,360, Passalacqua said.
