Lifeguards rescue surfer near La Jolla

LA JOLLA, Calif. – A 40-year-old surfer was injured during an outing at La Jolla Shores Sunday when he was struck in the head by a surfboard, lifeguards said.

The man walked up to the lifeguard tower with a laceration to his head about 11:45 a.m., San Diego Lifeguard Lt. Andy Lerum said.

Lifeguards helped the man control the bleeding and called paramedics.

According to Lt. Lerum the surfer is expected to be okay.
