gun-exchangeSAN DIEGO – A community gun exchange program will offer gift cards for turning in unwanted firearms, organizers said Monday.

The United African-American Ministerial Action Council’s fourth annual gun exchange is scheduled for Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 415 Euclid Avenue.

The group will give $50 gift cards for shotguns and rifles. Assault weapons and handguns can be exchanged for $100 cards. The guns have to work.

No questions will be asked of anyone turning in firearms, organizers said.

People wanting to dispose of their weapons are required to leave their unloaded guns in their trunk until San Diego police officers remove them.  The weapons will be destroyed.

The $10,000 worth of gift cards will come from San Diego Sheriff’s Department.
