StocktonShootingSAN DIEGO — An investigation was under way Monday into the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man in San Diego’s Stockton neighborhood.

Police received reports of gunfire in the 3100 block of L Street just before 9 p.m. Sunday, San Diego homicide police Lt. Ernie Herbert said in a statement. Once there, officers found a 19-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound lying in the street, he said.

Medics took him to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The man was apparently walking on a sidewalk on 32nd Street just north of L Street when he was shot, Herbert said. It was not immediately clear how he ended up on L Street.

The motive for the shooting was under investigation. Police withheld the man’s name pending family notification.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call homicide detectives at 619-531-2293 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers’ anonymous tip line at 888-580-8477.
