Fatal hit and run in Escondido

ESCONDIDO, Calif. – A drunken driver struck and killed a pedestrian with his vehicle, fled and was jailed, Escondido police said. The incident occurred about 6:25 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Waverly Place, Escondido Police Lt. T. Albergo said. “The driver fled the scene but was followed by a witness,”Albergo said.

The 46-year-old male victim died at the scene. His name was not released. Albergo said the driver of the vehicle was later arrested for suspicion of drunken driving and hit and run. His name is a public record, but was not available from Escondido police. Escondido police officers Michael Guerrero and Stephan Braucht asked anyone with information about the incident to call them at (760) 839-4722.
