DUI checkpoint yields 19 arrests

SAN DIEGO – San Diego police arrested 19 people on suspicion of drunk driving at a downtown checkpoint. Police set up in the 1500 block of First Avenue and started screening drivers about 10:50 p.m. Saturday, Officer Mark McCullough said.

Eighteen vehicles were impounded and could be held for as long as 30 days. According to McCullough, officers screened 836 of 1,397 drivers and arrested 19.
