SAN DIEGO— Ready, set, grow! More mustaches are sprouting around San Diego because November 1 is the first day of “Movember”.

It’s a campaign to raise awareness about prostate cancer and it’s growing fast.

Surfboards aren’t the only things being trimmed at Shaper Studios. CEO Chris Clark and his team are sporting mustaches to bring awareness to men’s health.

“My grandfather actually died from prostate cancer so it’s a little bit near and dear to me,” Clark said.  “It’s a fun cause, growing a mustache is kind of hip and cool and trendy.”

Participants spend 30 days growing and grooming their mustaches for charity.

“It’s a conversation starter,” Movember Chief Operating Officer Jason Hincks said. “The conversations that are started by those little furry billboards under our noses lead to better education. They lead to better help seeking behavior when it comes to men and their health, which in turn saves lives.”

Registration for Movember has begun and participants must start the month clean-shaven and the mustache can’t connect to a beard or sideburns.
