chula vista fatal accidentCHULA VISTA, Calif. – An investigation was continuing Monday into the death of a woman who was struck by a pickup driven by her husband that she had apparently just gotten out of in Chula Vista, police said.

The investigation was in its early stages, but the crash appeared to have been accidental, Chula Vista Police Department Lt. Scott Arsenault said.

Investigators are trying to determine how the victim exited the vehicle and was struck by it, according to police.

The woman was struck shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday near Bay Boulevard and H Street, police said.

Officers at the scene performed CPR on the woman until paramedics arrived and took her to UC San Diego Medical Center, where she died.

Her name was not immediately released.

Man Runs Over WifeCHULA VISTA — Police are trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman who was run over by her husband Sunday night.

The woman was hit by her husband’s car in the intersection of Bay Boulevard and H Street in Chula Vista just after 8 p.m. Rescuers performed CPR on the woman before taking her to UCSD Medical Center, where she died.

Police said the victim, who was in her 30s, either jumped out of the car on her own or was shoved out.

“The investigation right now is still ongoing trying to determine all the situation — if she was a passenger in the car or if she was outside the car,” a spokesman for the Chula Vista Police Department said.  “We’re not sure if she jumped out herself or if she was outside the car. We’re trying to determine if there was an argument or what was going on.”

Investigators shut down both streets during the investigation.

They said that alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the death.
