SAN DIEGO – Authorities arrested a man suspected of robbing a Carlsbad bank nearly a month earlier after an anonymous person identified him.

A tipster called authorities on January 28 stating that 30-year-old Edward Jones Inzunza of Oceanside appeared to be the man in the bank robbery surveillance photos released by FBI agents.  As the investigation continued, authorities determined that Inzunza was the person of interest in the case.

Inzunza was arrested by San Diego Sheriff’s deputies on Friday near the intersection of Lewis Street and Thunder Drive in Vista during a traffic stop, FBI spokesman Darrell Forworth said.

Inzunza was charged with robbing the Comerica Bank on 2600 block of El Camino Real in Carlsbad on Friday, January 4.

Investigators said Inzunza kept one of his hands thrust in a jacket pocket during the crime, as if holding a concealed gun — fled with an undisclosed amount of cash in a white 1990s-model extended-cab Toyota pickup truck.

Inzunza was booked into the Bureau of Prisons of San Diego and will face a judge on Monday, February 4.

SAN DIEGO — Authorities asked the public Monday for help in identifying a man who robbed a North County bank last week.

The thief approached a teller at the Comerica branch office in the 2600 block of El Camino Real in Carlsbad and demanded money shortly after 4:30 p.m. Friday, according to the FBI.

The bandit — who kept one of his hands thrust in a jacket pocket during the crime, as if holding a concealed gun — fled with an undisclosed amount of cash in a white 1990s-model extended-cab Toyota pickup truck.

Witnesses described him as a thin, roughly 5-foot-5-inch, 145-pound white man with a small mustache and tattoos on his neck up to the jaw line. He was wearing dark brown pants, a gray hooded sweat shirt and a black baseball cap, the FBI reported.

Anyone with information about the robbery was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
