SAN DIEGO - The 2018 Monster Energy AMA Supercross off-road motorcycle racing championship tour will hit Petco Park Saturday.
Heather Lake spent Friday morning checking out the riders as they practiced on the course.
The Padres stadium is the sixth stop for the touring competition, which opened in Anaheim in January.
During the main event, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m., motorcyclists will race at speeds in excess of 60 mph, soar as far as 70 feet and fly off jumps reaching heights as tall as a three-story building. Competitors ride between 15 and 20 laps around tracks set up in Petco Park.
Practices and other events begin at 12:30 p.m.
The Metropolitan Transit System is offering expanded trolley service to help shuttle the 30,000 people expected at the event to and from the stadium.
Before the event, Green Line trains will depart all stations for downtown every 15 minutes for most of the day. Blue Line and Orange Line trains will depart all stations for downtown ever 15 minutes all day.
After the event, Green Line trans will depart from the 12th and Imperial station every 15 minutes toward SDCCU Stadium and Santee. The last train for Santee leaves at 10:36 p.m. The last train for SDSU leaves at 11:36 p.m.
An additional southbound train will depart from 12th and Imperial to San Ysidro at 10:15 p.m. The last train leaves at midnight.
An additional Orange Line train will depart from 12th and Imperial to El Cajon at 10:18 p.m. The last train leaves at 12:03 a.m.
Free parking at MTS stations is available at SDCCU Stadium, Old Town Transit Center, Palm Avenue Station and Spring Street Transit Center.
