SAN DIEGO — A woman apparently escaped serious injury Wednesday when her car slammed head-on into a tree and burst into flames in San Diego’s North Clairemont neighborhood, police said.
The crash happened about 5:15 a.m. in the 3900 block of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard near the Clairemont Town Square, San Diego Police Officer Dino Delimitros said. The car, a black sedan, smashed into a tree in the center divide.
After the car hit the tree, the front end burst into flames, authorities said. But the driver was able to get out of the burning car and was standing outside when police and firefighters arrived.
Fire crews quickly doused the flames and the woman was transported to a hospital with injuries that did not initially appear to be serious, Delimitros said.
