Adults and children were gathered for a birthday party at Vault PK at 1699 Main Street when a 10-by-30-feet platform that was 10 feet above the ground collapsed shortly before 8 p.m., falling on several people, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Four children were taken to hospitals to be treated for major, including spinal, injuries, SDFD Deputy Chief Steve Wright said. Seventeen children were taken to hospitals to be treated for minor injuries.

Two women, ages 72 and 46, were also transported to hospitals.

Firefighters were working to investigate if the platform was built to sustain people or if the number of people on the platform exceeded the limit.

Snapchat video taken by employee Patrick Minor shows the aftermath of the collapse, including pieces of shattered glass and other materials on the ground. Several firefighters can be seen assessing children's injuries in the trampoline area of the gym.
