Motorcyclist dies after running red light, crashing into car

SAN DIEGO - A motorcyclist died after running a red light and colliding with a car in a busy intersection in Grantville Monday, police said.

A 28-year-old man was riding a 2017 Suzuki motorcycle southbound on Rancho Mission Road when he approached a red light at San Diego Mission Road around 4:40 p.m., San Diego police said. The speeding motorcyclist ran the red the light and t-boned a 2009 Hyundai Elantra that was heading eastbound on San Diego Mission Road, according to police.

The motorcyclist died at the scene.

The driver of the car was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

SDPD's traffic division is investigating.
