Shark sighting prompts advisory at Silver Strand State Beach

CORONADO, Calif. – Lifeguards issued an advisory along Silver Strand State Beach Saturday after a reported shark sighting.

Ken Irvine, a surfer who reported the sighting to lifeguards shortly after 8 a.m., told FOX 5 he estimated the shark was a ten-foot-long great white. Irvine was surfing about 80 yards from shore when he spotted the shark, lifeguards said.

Lifeguards told FOX 5 the shark didn’t appear to show any aggressive behavior.

The advisory was put in place for 24 hours, until Sunday morning.
