VALLEY CENTER, Calif. -- A man visiting a home in Valley Center died after a fight was reported Thursday morning, authorities said.
Sheriff's deputies received a call from someone in the house in the 15400 block of Villa Sierra Road in Valley Center around 5 a.m. The person reported that a fight broke out.
"When authorities arrived, they found a man who appeared to be in his 30s with wounds to his body," said Lt. Kenn Nelson, San Diego Sheriff's Homicide Unit. "They attempted CPR on the victim, but he died at the house."
Homicide detectives were called to investigate and were talking to witnesses.
According to county records, the home belongs to Kathleen M. Cleary. She moved to the neighborhood in 2013.
"We’ve all been on the phone with each other and talking," said Faith Much, Neighbor.
Much has lived in the Villa Sierra community for more than 30 years. She calls the neighborhood close knit, but no one knew much about Cleary.
"It's really sad, we have a lovely neighborhood a lot of us have been here for 20 30 years, we can’t believe it happened," said Much.
Family members gathered at the scene, but no one wanted to speak to Fox 5.
Investigators said it was the first time law enforcement has been at the home.
"I do believe deputies have been here in the past, I just don’t know exactly when how many times or what the nature of those calls were," said Lt. Nelson.
Detectives said they have a "person of interest," but have not provided details about it.
