SAN DIEGO -- Two homeless men were found dead under suspicious circumstances at an Otay Mesa strip mall Wednesday.

A patrol officer spotted the victims' bodies in front of a closed business in the 3400 block of Palm Avenue about 2:45 a.m., according to San Diego police.

Due to the presence of serious trauma to the dead men's upper bodies, homicide detectives were called in, Lt. Mike Holden said. The cause of their fatal injuries was not immediately clear.

The names of the victims, one of whom was 61 years old and the other 56, were withheld pending family notification.
