Flirting, talking on the phone may get you banned from Uber

The Metropolitan Transit System announced Thursday an agreement with Uber to move customers to and from transit stations in San Diego County over the next few weeks, with the possibility of a more permanent arrangement in the future.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Uber, the popular app that allows a user to hail a car with a smartphone, is laying down the law with a strict code of conduct for riders.

What have seemingly been unspoken rules of common courtesy have now officially been issued by the company warning riders of the dos – and more importantly, the don’ts – of using the service, FOX 31 reported.

In a legal release issued on the company’s website, a list of positive actions taken by riders is followed by behavior that will get you banned from getting from point A to point B.

A summarized list of encouraged behavior includes the following:

  • Respect each other: This means be on time, no shouting, no swearing and no messes allowed.
  • Give riders and drivers personal space: Ask other riders and drivers for permission before making a phone call while in the vehicle. Keeping your voice down is emphasized as well. Also, “flirting” is highly discouraged.
  • Safety first: Buckle up and leave your guns at home.
  • Children must be supervised: Only adults can have an Uber rider account. If a child is using your account, a parent or guardian must be with them at all times.
  • Feedback is necessary: Whether you are a rider or driver, please rate your journey at the end of the trip.

Here’s a brief overview of the actions that will get your Uber account permanently deleted:

  • Damaging drivers’ or other passengers’ property:  Damaging the car, breaking or vandalizing a phone, intentionally spilling food or drink, smoking, or vomiting due to excessive alcohol consumption.
  • Physical contact with the driver or fellow riders: You shouldn’t touch or flirt or have sex with other people in the car.
  • Use of inappropriate and abusive language or gestures: Asking overly personal questions, using verbal threats, and making comments or gestures that are aggressive, sexual, discriminatory, or disrespectful.
  • Unwanted contact with the driver or fellow passenger after the trip is over: Texting, calling, or visiting someone in person after a ride has been completed.
  • Breaking the local law while using Uber: Bringing open containers of alcohol or drugs into the car; traveling in large groups that exceed the number of seat belts in the car.

Uber wraps up their warning saying “problematic behavior” may result in permanently losing your privileges to pay for rides with the service.
