ALPINE, Calif. -- A toddler was found dead under suspicious circumstances in eastern San Diego County Tuesday, authorities reported.

Sheriff's department investigators told FOX 5 that deputies and firefighters were first called to a home on Hunter Lane just after noon.

"When they went inside, the fire department began CPR on the 18-month-old child found inside a motor home," said Lt. Kenn Nelson, Sheriff's Department Homicide Unit.

"The deputies, while they’re doing their investigation, noticed there were some injuries on the child that raised their suspicion," said Lt. Nelson.

Investigators would not clarify the injuries, but have ruled her death suspicious.

Her name was withheld pending full family notification.

Investigators said the child lived in the motor home with her mother.

"She has a boyfriend who lives on the property as well. We’re not sure if he was in the motorhome last night or not," said Lt. Nelson.

An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday morning.  The Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause of the child's death.
