Pedestrian hit in crosswalk by suspected drunk driver

CARLSBAD, Calif. – A suspected drunk driver was behind bars Monday after allegedly hitting a pedestrian in Carlsbad.

Chad Eugene Gibson, 41, was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI following the crash at the intersection of Jefferson Street and Grand Avenue at around 8:20 p.m. Sunday, according to Carlsbad police and jail records.

Gibson allegedly was behind the wheel of a pickup truck that hit a pedestrian in the crosswalk. The pedestrian suffered a serious head injury and was taken to a hospital to be treated, police said.
