SAN DIEGO  — Three boys were facing charges Friday for allegedly carjacking a man at gunpoint outside a Morena-area restaurant.

The victim had just gotten into his parked car on Morena Boulevard near Buenos Avenue after leaving the eatery around 9 p.m. Thursday when two of the suspects started tapping on the windows, police said. They pointed handguns at the victim and ordered him out of his car, said San Diego police Officer Ben Newton.

A third suspect demanded that the victim empty his pockets as he was exiting the vehicle, but he refused to hand over any of his property, Newton said.

The trio then hopped into the man’s car and sped off. However, they were arrested after a brief pursuit in National City a short time later, according to the officer.

The boys’ names and ages were not immediately available, but police said all three were juveniles.
