SAN DIEGO — San Diego police sought Friday an armed man who held up a Bay Park-area gas station.

The robber demanded money from an employee at an am/pm convenience store at an Arco station on Morena Boulevard near Frankfort Street shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday, said San Diego police Officer Ben Newton.

The suspect had a weapon in his waistband, but the cashier couldn’t tell if it was a gun or a knife, Newton said.

The cashier took an unknown amount from the cash register and placed it in the man’s backpack. The robber ran off and headed south on West Morena Boulevard, Newton said.

A detailed description of the suspect was not immediately available, but police said he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and a black ski mask partially covering his face.
