ENCINITAS, Calif. – Kristin Gaspar edged out Dave Roberts in her bid for San Diego County Board of Supervisors, her campaign announced Monday.
Gasper, the current mayor of Encinitas, initially trailed incumbent Supervisor Roberts on election night, but closed the gap after two weeks of ballot counting and gained a lead of over 1,200 votes, according to Jason Cabel Roe, who worked with her campaign.
As of Monday, Gasper had 50.27% of the votes. There were around 1,000 ballots left to count in District 3, according to Registrar of Voters Michael Vu.
“I’m incredibly proud of the campaign we ran and so grateful to the many people who helped me raise money, walk precincts, and put up signs and get our message out,” said Gaspar.
Roberts congratulated Gasper Monday morning during a phone call. He said he's help her transition into the office.
“I was pleasantly surprised that she was open to advice and even asked questions about some of the things that I had worked on,” said Roberts. “I want to thank my supporters for their tireless efforts.”
Gaspar is expected to speak about her victory Tuesday. Her campaign manager Jason Roe said they were thrilled with the outcome.
“Kristin is a pretty level headed person, but I could hear the excitement in her voice,” said Roe.
Gaspar will be officially sworn in on January 2.
