SAN DIEGO -- Investigators were trying to determine what sparked a fire that raged through a vacant home in City Heights early Thursday morning.
The non-injury fire on 35th Street, between University Avenue and Wightman Street, was reported around 3:10 a.m. Next-door neighbors evacuated temporarily but were allowed to return to their homes. The fully engulfed residential fire caused damage to a home next door.
San Diego Police closed 35th Street between University Avenue and Wightman Street during the investigation and cleanup.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known, and investigators were sent to the scene, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Lee Swanson said.
