Speeding driver OK after crash that ripped car in half

SAN DIEGO – A speeding driver only had minor injuries after hitting a tree in Mira Mesa late Sunday night.

The driver lost control of the vehicle near Sandburg Elementary school around 11 p.m., nearly tearing the Honda Civic in half.

Authorities said there was dense fog in the area. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash.

No word on whether the driver has been charged.
