PACIFIC BEACH, Calif. -- The California Highway Patrol was investigating a fatal crash that closed all lanes on northbound Interstate 5 in Pacific Beach.

The crash was reported at 10:04 p.m., approaching the Balboa Avenue exit. One of the drivers was reported to be driving the wrong way on the freeway.

A dead person was seen in a car that eventually became fully engulfed in flames, according to CHP officers at the scene.

Northbound traffic was detoured off the freeway onto Mission Bay Drive, through the signals at Balboa Avenue and then back onto the interstate.
