CARLSBAD, Calif. — The cause of an explosion and resulting fire that injured a resident at a Carlsbad apartment complex was under investigation Thursday.

Someone called for help around 9 p.m. Wednesday after hearing an explosion in the 2200 block of Avenida Magnifica near Hosp Way. Arriving police officers found an extinguished fire in an apartment kitchen, and the unit’s two residents out on the porch, according to a Carlsbad police statement.

The fire did not damage any other apartments and did not necessitate any evacuations, police said.

One of the residents suffered minor to moderate injuries and was taken to the burn unit at UC San Diego Medical Center to be treated, police said.

Investigators were working to determine the cause of the fire, authorities said.
