SAN DIEGO -- A Lemon Grove man was stabbed to death outside a home in Encanto and police were looking for the person responsible Sunday.
Early Sunday morning San Diego Police Department detectives surrounded the area of 1000 Evelyn Street after receiving a 911 call about a man who had been stabbed.
Detectives said when officers arrived they found a man performing CPR on the victim. Officers then took over until medics arrived, but the 44-year-old man was pronounced dead outside the home.
“There was an altercation between two males. One of the males was stabbed during the fight and the other male fled,” said SDPD Sgt. Dan Grubbs. The suspect described as a man in his 20s left in a vehicle.
As of Sunday afternoon, police said they have a person of interest, but have not yet made an arrest.
“From what I understand he was going over there to do his wife in,” said Elton Stovell, a neighbor.
Neighbors who spoke with FOX 5 said the man was heading over to see a woman who had been staying at the home.
Residents said crime seems to have picked up and Sunday's stabbing is one more incident that caused them to worry.
“It is kind of scary. There’s quite a bit going on in the neighborhood lately, seems like in the last year or two," said Stovell. "I think the police need to patrol down in this area more and maybe put in another light."
The investigation is ongoing. Police ask if anyone has information about this incident to call the San Diego Police departments homicide unit or Crime stoppers at 888-580-8477.
