FOX 5 Morning News team expands
Murphy and Audencial will join veteran weather anchor and reporter Brad Wills beginning Monday at 4:30 a.m. The early-morning team will hand the baton over to Shally Zomorodi, Raoul Martinez and Chrissy Russo at 6 a.m.
Murphy, who graduated from the University of California San Diego, previously worked in San Diego as a weekend anchor and reporter. He comes back to SoCal from Pennsylvania where he co-anchored “Good Day Philadelphia.”
“I first moved to San Diego to attend UCSD in 1987, and although the city and I have grown up a lot since then — perhaps the former more than the later — we are still a perfect fit,” Murphy said. “I look forward to covering San Diego’s future growth, while looking back with fondness at my years in Philadelphia. In fact, stay classy Philadelphia!”
Murphy joins Audencial, who has been reporting around San Diego County for the last two years.
“I’ve had the opportunity to report breaking news for our nightly viewers, and now I get to wake up with San Diego,” Audencial said. “It’s a privilege to get to know our morning viewers.”
FOX 5’s morning anchor Shally Zomorodi will also return to the anchor chair Monday. Zomorodi took the last few months off following the birth of her baby Shyla.
“The past few months have been magical being at home with my three babies. In between spending time with them, I’ve spent a lot of time watching history unfold on the news. With the upcoming presidential election, I am excited and thrilled to be back alongside Raoul reporting on crucial events affecting our country,” Zomorodi said. “Besides, I couldn’t take one more text from Raoul asking me to come back!”
