SAN DIEGO -- A woman suspected of stealing an Uber car and leading police on a vehicle pursuit and a foot chase was arrested Thursday morning in La Jolla, authorities said.

The Uber driver had just parked his Mercedes-Benz at the Arco gas station in the 900 block of Turquoise Street in Pacific Beach shortly after 4 a.m., when he called police to report it stolen, said police Officer Tony Martinez.

Officers responding to the call spotted the car, tried to pull it over, but the driver took off, Martinez said.

They lost the stolen car briefly, but found it empty a short time later in the 7500 block of Miramar Avenue in La Jolla. They spotted the suspect, tried to arrest her, but she ran away. After a brief foot chase, she was taken into custody in the 7500 block of Cabrillo Avenue, Martinez said.

The woman, who is 25, suffered a broken foot and was taken to a hospital.

The police cruiser collided with the Mercedes-Benz somewhere along the way and sustained minor damage, but the officers were not hurt, Martinez said.
