Drunk couple rescued off Del Mar cliff cited for trespassing

DEL MAR, Calif. – Two people trespassing near 13th street in Del Mar overnight got stranded on the cliffs and had to be rescued by firefighters.

The couple, who had been drinking heavily before getting stuck on the cliffs, ignored nearby ‘no trespassing’ signs, officials said.

The couple had to be lowered to the beach below by firefighters. They were then taken to a nearby lifeguard station for minor injuries.

According to the sheriff's deputies, the couple, along with a friend, were fined $500 for trespassing over the railroad tracks.

Train service was delayed for over two hours, but has since resumed.
