Schools in El Cajon close early Friday for safety of students

EL CAJON, Calif. – Following three days of protests over the fatal police shooting of an unarmed black man, the Cajon Valley Union School District announced it will close schools early on Friday for the safety of students.

According to an email from the district, the dismissal will allow ample time for students to be picked up from school safely.

“The safety of our students and staff are our first priority,” Superintendent David Miyashrio said.

Middle school students will be dismissed at 12:15 p.m. and elementary schools will dismiss one hour early.  District offices will close at 3 p.m.

Middle Schools: 12:15 p.m. dismissal

Elementary Schools: 2 p.m. dismissal

Community Day School: 12:15 p.m. dismissal

All p.m. state preschool, special education preschool and early start classes are canceled.
