SAN DIEGO – A woman was attacked while walking through Mount Hope early Thursday but managed to fight off the assailant.

A man approached the 28-year-old victim in the vicinity of 43rd and Market streets shortly before 2:30 a.m., grabbed her and attempted to take off her skirt, San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros said. She was able to escape and the suspect ran toward the offramp from Interstate 805 to Market Street.

The suspect was not immediately located. Police described him as a 5- foot-5 Hispanic man in his 30s with a mustache, wearing a green shirt and dark jeans.

Authorities shut down the offramp during the investigation, but it later reopened, police said.
