2 arrested as protests continue over El Cajon police shooting

EL CAJON, Calif. – Two men were arrested for participation in unlawful assembly Thursday night as protesters angry over the killing of Alfred Olango took to the streets for a third night.

Between 50 and 75 protesters who occupied the intersection of Broadway and Mollison began stopping vehicles and breaking car windows, according to a release from El Cajon police. At one point, an assault took place between protesters and a motorcyclist, who was knocked off his motorcycle.

El Cajon police declared an unlawful assembly at the intersection and notified the protesters to disperse.

The protesters began throwing glass bottles at the police and after the group refused to disperse, pepper balls were deployed. A 19-year-old man and 28-year-old man from El Cajon were taken into custody.
