A couple was arguing outside the apartment in the 4700 block of Home Avenue around 2:30 a.m. when a man took out a gun and fired two shots, police said.
One of those bullets shattered a glass door and struck the air mattress Olivia Williams and her brother were sleeping on, according to police.
Olivia says she was frightened and ran to get her mom, who was sleeping nearby.
“I’m a light sleeper so I was awake and I heard a loud boom. And then I hear glass shattering and then I started to wake up and I realized what happened. So, I ran to get my brother and my mom. She wakes up and tells us to get on the floor,” Olivia said.
Olivia’s mother said the family is moving from the apartment due to ongoing violence in the area.
The shooter was taken into custody by police. His girlfriend was briefly detained, but later released.
Nobody was injured in the shooting. Police continue to investigate.
