Possible shootout leads to high-speed chase

SAN DIEGO – San Diego police were investigating a possible shootout in East Village Tuesday morning.

About 30 people were gathered near Island Avenue and 15th Street around 3 a.m when the gunfire broke out.  Investigating officers found 10 shell casings from two different guns, but they did not locate any victims or suspects at the scene.

Police chased after a silver SUV that sped away from the scene and reached speeds of 100 mph on Interstate 5.  After a short pursuit, the driver was stopped on I-5 at Palm Avenue. It was not known whether the driver or passenger are connected to the shooting. The two had not given police any information to help in the investigation, authorities said. The driver was charged with reckless driving.

No injuries were reported and no suspect information has been released.
