SAN DIEGO – The wife of San Diego Padres Yangervis Solarte passed Saturday after battling cancer.

The third baseman’s wife Yuliette Solarte died of complications from cancer, ESPN reported. She was 31 years old.

Padres manager Andy Green told ESPN that she died before Saturday’s game in Colorado.  Yangervis missed Friday’s game to fly to Florida to be with this wife and three daughters, ESPN reported.

Yangervis, who is from Venezuela, posted a message to Twitter Saturday night to express gratitude for the outpouring of support.

“Simply thank you for all your support. The truth is I have no word to describe this. We had a tough year but I know that I struggled,” Solarte posted in Spanish.

Yangervis’ return is unknown, although he told the Padres organization he hopes to play with the team before the season’s end, ESPN reported.
