SAN DIEGO — After a disheartening collapse in Kansas City last week, the San Diego Chargers bounced back in their home opener Sunday to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 38-14 at Qualcomm Stadium.

Quarterback Philip Rivers threw four touchdown passes, completing 17 of his 22 attempts for 220 yards. Melvin Gordon to continued his strong start to the season. The second-year running back broke the 100-yard barrier for the first time in his career, rushing for 102 yards and a touchdown to go along with three catches for 18 yards.

With star wide receiver Keenan Allen out for the season with a torn ACL, the rest of the Chargers’ receiving corps stepped up against the Jaguars. Travis Benjamin hauled in six catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns, and Tyrell Williams added 61 yards, 44 of them coming on a slick catch-and-run into the endzone.

Unfortunately, the blowout victory came at a cost for the Bolts: Danny Woodhead, the versatile running back, suffered an apparent knee injury in the first quarter and would not return to the game. Safety Jahleel Addae also left the game after a hard hit on Jacksonville’s Denard Robinson in the fourth quarter.

Next week the Chargers (1-1) head to Indianapolis to take on the Colts (0-2). Kickoff is slated for 1:25 p.m.
