Two CHP officers injured in collision with suspected drunk driver

LAKESIDE, Calif. -- A California Highway Patrol officer and a CHP sergeant were injured early Friday when their SUV was struck by a suspected drunk driver who ran a red light at a Lakeside intersection, authorities said.

The collision happened around 1 a.m. at the intersection of Los Coches Road and Julian Avenue.

Both the sergeant and officer were taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital with bruises and complaints of pain following the crash but were later released.

Four people inside the car were injured and taken to the hospital.  The 19-year-old driver was arrested for DUI.

Officers found alcohol and drug paraphernalia inside the car.

The investigation is ongoing.
