Hurricane Newton makes landfall in Baja California

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico -- At least 14,000 tourists are stranded as Hurricane Newton slams into Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Newton made landfall as a Category 1 storm Tuesday morning.

Authorities have closed schools and set up emergency shelters in Cabo San Lucas.

Newton’s winds have been clocked at 90 mph and the storm is expected to bring torrential rains and swelling seas to the areas of Jalisco, Colima, Michoacan, Sinaloa, Nayarit and Durango, Baja California Sur, Zacatecas and Guerrero.

A Hurricane watch area has been established from Cabo San Lazaro to San Evaristo, including Cabo San Lucas and Baja California Sur.
