Vandals paint swastikas on Park Village Elementary

RANCHO PENASQUITOS, Calif. -- A swastika and foul language was spray painted on the side of Park Village Elementary School Tuesday night.

Witnesses say three young people were seen vandalizing the school, but ran off when a man confronted them.

“I think they were pretty young, maybe 11 to 13 years old, maybe elementary or middle schoolers,” said a woman who didn’t want to be identified.

The statements were misspelled and nonsensical, leading some neighbors to believe that the vandals couldn’t have known what they were doing.

“It's a terrible thing to see, but when we find out who these kids are, their punishment should be restorative justice. They need to know what these symbols represent and why they are so wrong,” said Park Village Elementary parent Darshana Patel.

The school says they are not treating the incident as a hate crime because of the young age of the kids involved.

The damage was cleaned up quickly and the San Diego Police Department is looking into the crime.
