Month-long lane closures planned along Mission Gorge Road

SAN DIEGO — Some turn lanes along Mission Gorge Road in the Grantville¬†area will be closed for about a month beginning Thursday so city crews can continue working to restore areas that have settled.

Repair efforts on road segments that had unexpectedly settled began in June.

The construction initially prompted crews to close two northbound and two southbound lanes on Mission Gorge Road, squeezing traffic along the busy roadway into one lane in each direction between Old Cliffs Road and Greenbrier Avenue, according to city officials.

Starting Thursday, city of San Diego workers will extend the closure to include some turn lanes at the intersection of Mission Gorge Road and Greenbrier Avenue.

Turn lanes from southbound Mission Gorge Road to Greenbrier Avenue and from Greenbrier to southbound Mission Gorge Road will be closed. U-turns at the intersection will not be allowed, according to the city.

Turn lanes from northbound Mission Gorge Road to Greenbrier Avenue and from Greenbrier to northbound Mission Gorge Road will remain open.

City officials said once the work in the intersection was completed, the turn lanes would be reopened, although construction in the area will be continuing.
