Arrest made after man found dead in Borrego Springs home

BORREGO SPRINGS, Calif. – A 53-year-old Borrego Springs man was arrested and booked into jail Sunday for the murder of another man, whose body was found Saturday morning in a home in the desert community, according to sheriff’s detectives.

Mark Peter Waugh was detained Saturday morning as a person of interest after deputies were called to the 400 block of Verbena Drive at about 7:45 a.m. There, they found a man dead with signs of trauma to his upper body.

The victim was believed to be about 50 years old, according to Sheriff’s Homicide Lt. Kenneth Nelson. But no name was released.

Waugh was booked into the Vista jail Sunday at about 4 a.m. on suspicion of one count of murder. he was held without bail until his arraignment in Vista Superior Court on Tuesday.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy and will determine the cause and manner of death as well as the identity of the victim, Nelson said.
