DUI suspect allegedly drives home after running down elderly man

SAN DIEGO -- A suspected drunken driver who fatally struck a pedestrian in Hillcrest and fled the scene was arrested about an hour later a few miles away in University Heights early Wednesday.

The hit-and-run driver behind the wheel of a silver Nissan Cube struck 78-year-old Michael James McGraw as he running across Fifth Avenue near Brookes Avenue around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, police said. McGraw died at the scene.

The Nissan sped away after the crash but was later located in a parking lot in the vicinity of Ohio Street and Monroe Avenue.

The driver, 60-year-old Robert Anthony Dean, was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run and drunken driving.
